Exterior Trim With Less Maintenance Means More Value

Exterior wood trim is popular with homeowners because it’s adaptable, affordable and, quite simply, they like how it looks. But is it the best option for contractors to offer to their customers? Maintaining wood trim is a constant and expensive headache. Even with all that work, wood trim eventually succumbs to the elements in a matter of years. While cellular PVC trim has clear advantages, some might argue that initial installation cost of wood trim is too good to pass up. We beg to differ.

Long-Term Value

Over the course of their lifetimes, it’s likely that wood trim will cost more than PVC trim. Let’s do the math. Wood trim must be repainted roughly every five to seven years. Fixr estimates that it costs  $1 per linear foot to paint trim. A 1,500 square foot home with 500 linear feet of trim would cost approximately $500 to paint. If wood trim’s lifespan is between 20 and 30 years, homeowners will have to pay an additional $1,500 to $3,000 more on a 1,500 square foot home with wood trim than they would on the same home using PVC trim. That’s just maintenance. What about repair and replacement? According to Home Advisor, repairing wood trim costs between $295-$1017, with a national average of $626 based on actual project costs as reported by 4,527 Home Advisor members. If repairing wood trim isn’t feasible because of rot, then it’s back to square one with full installation costs. Homeowners might save some money upfront but they could end up spending much more over time.

No Moisture-Proofing Necessary (Ever)

Wood requires repeated priming, painting, staining and sealing against water. Then it rots anyway. Cellular PVC trim is practically impervious to moisture in its natural state and stays that way. No extra layers of protection needed. Your customers will be happy their trim won’t rot and you’ll save yourself installation time and labor by skipping the prep and sealing steps with our trim.

All the Aesthetics, Better Protection

Cellular PVC trim can be curved and moulded like wood. It can be milled like wood with the same woodworking tools. But when it comes to painting, cellular PVC trim has a big advantage. Since they are moisture-proof, both Classic AZEK® Trim and AZEK Trim with PaintPro® Technology have better protection against paint cracking, splitting or chipping. Moisture has a much harder time breaking up the bond between paint and substrate. The difference in performance is remarkable, beautiful and undeniable.

AZEK Trim Has Something Other PVC Trim Doesn't

All AZEK Trim is protected by a Lifetime Limited Warranty. In fact, AZEK’s warranty is the best you’ll find in the industry. Wood, on the other hand, has no warranty. Our trim has a guarantee that no competitor can match and wood trim can’t possibly beat. We believe your customers and your business deserve better performance from their exterior trim. Use the lower maintenance option with better long-term value for exterior trim.
